One of the important purposes of the Adler Child Guidance Center is to support and promote on-going research into the effectiveness and refinement of parent-education and child guidance methods. We encourage students to become involved in these efforts. Listed below are faculty affiliated with the ACGC and their current research interests.
Dr. Colker is currently Core Faculty Member in the MAO Program (Master of Arts in Counseling and Organizational Psychology) and Interim Director of the Adler Child Guidance Center. He teaches courses in Organizational Consultation and Group Development; Principles of Industrial/Organizational Psychology; Group Psychotherapy; Theories of Psychotherapy; Parent Education: Adlerian Psychology Theory and Intervention; Introduction to Adlerian Psychology; and Adlerian Approaches to Individual and Family Therapy.
His research interests include the benefits of Open Forum Family Education; community-based parent training; the application of Adlerian Psychology in organizations; leadership development among all individuals and particularly among leaders and managers in organizations. Dr. Colker is especially interested in establishing and developing collaborative networks for shared learning and support.
Dr. Fitzgerald is currently the Director of Master’s Counseling Training at Adler School of Professional Psychology. He has taught courses in organizational development, research methods, Adlerian theory, and theories of psychotherapy. His work background is in the field of Employee Assistance.
His research interests include using Adlerian principles in helping adults, children and teenagers with problems including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and relationship problems. He is also interested in applying Adlerian principles to organizations and the workplace, and in addressing issues of work-life balance and career satisfaction.
Dr. Johnson-Migalski is an Associate Professor in the Clinical Psychology Department at the Adler School of Professional Psychology. She teaches courses on Adlerian theory and practice for both Master’s and Doctoral students. She is currently adviser to the Adlerian Society and is active with NASAP as the Affiliate Liaison to the Board of Directors. Dr. Johnson-Migalski is also a certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator.
Her research interests include exploring early recollections, factors associated with suicide, mood disorders, and parenting styles. She is familiar with Adlerian research instruments such as the BASIS-A, and other social interest inventories.
Professor Ramos coordinates the parent-education program for Spanish speaking populations. Her research interests include: Multicultural Counseling Competency, in particular counseling Latino individuals and families as well as Parent Education with Spanish speaking parents. Professor Ramos is a certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator.
Her research interests include developing programs for parent education in Spanish speaking populations.
Marla Vannucci is an Associate Professor at the Adler School, where she teaches classes such as Marriage & Family Systems, Supervision & Consultation, Basic Skills in Psychotherapy, and History & Systems. Her clinical specialties include couples therapy, parenting, interpersonal issues, and trauma, and she is a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator.
Her consultative and research interests include transition to parenthood, marriage and couples relationships, psychologist professional issues, supervision and training, person/organization fit, and program development and evaluation.
Dr. Amy Zavada is core faculty in the Marriage and Family Program. Her work focuses increasing complexity to understand the systemic nature of family relationships. She teaches courses such as Models of Couple and Family Therapy, Basic Skills in Couple and Family Therapy, Systems Theory, Culture and Diversity in Couple and Family Therapy, and Advanced Couples Counseling.
Her research interests include emotional expression and connection in family systems and how body weight impacts and is impacted by relationships. As a teacher, a consultant, and a therapist she works to create new experiences that foster levels of deeper awareness, critical thinking, congruent communication, intimate connection, and social change.
