I believe in creating an environment that fosters inquiry and critical thinking, and one in which students can fully engage in questioning, appreciate the complexity of ideas, and reconsider previously held beliefs. In disability studies, I think it is crucial for students to listen to and grow from hearing the perspectives of others, while simultaneously increasing appreciation for evidenced-based practices.
I pursued doctoral studies after working in disability management for more than 20 years. This allows me to further my lifelong interest in education; I now have the great fortune to teach subjects about which I passionately care. I draw upon my experiences, as well as those of my students, for examples that help make content relevant and from which we all can learn.
I find tremendous opportunity in the congruence of the mission and values of the Adler School and efforts to enhance inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the community and in the workforce. Adler School students care deeply about becoming socially responsible practitioners committed to social justice; I believe our students will have significant impact in empowering individuals with disabilities.
