    The Elina Manghi Memorial Child and Adolescent Psychology Lecture and Scholarship Reception.Featured topic and lecture is "Treating a Moody Child: Psychoeducational Psychotherapy A Starting Point Model for Child/Family Therapy” presented by Mary A. Fristad, Ph.D., ABPP.

    Dr. Fristad’ s area of specialty is childhood mood disorders. Author of Raising a Moody Child: How to Cope with Depression, she has also published over 150 articles and book chapters addressing the assessment and treatment of childhood-onset depression, suicidality and bipolar disorder (manic-depression). Dr. Fristad serves on the Board of Directors for five web-based education and support groups for children and families with mood disorders.

    The annual Elina Manghi Memorial Lecture promotes the vision and passion of Elina Manghi, Psy.D,. A Professor in the Adler School Department of Clinical Psychology who led the Child and Adolescent Track of the Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) Program., Dr. Manghian exemplary clinician, researcher and teacher, whose compassion and generosity deeply touched everyone with whom she worked.

    Established in 2012, the Elina Manghi Memorial also provides an annual Diversity Scholarship to support students from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds studying Child and Adolescent Psychology at the Adler School.

    The Society of Organizational Psychology and The Masters of Counseling and Organizational Psychology presents Challenges in the Workplace: What Every Professional Should Know about the 21st Century Workplace.

  • The Stigma Regarding Mental Health within a Military Population Military and Trauma Related Areas of Psychology (+)

    Army Psychologist Major Robert Case will discussthe stigma of mental health within military populations as well as trauma and military areas of psychology.

    Major Case’s is currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow Warrior Resiliency Program and Deputy Chief of the Psychology Residency Program at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas.

    Major Case will also discuss the opportunities in the Army’s:

    • Health Professions Scholarship Program
    • Clinical Psychology Internship Program
    • Post Doctoral Hour Program

    The Adler School is organizing a group of students, faculty, and staff to participate in a phone bank outing. We are working to request that Illinois representatives in key swing-vote districts vote “yes” on Illinois SB 10, The Illinois Gay Marriage Law.  

    • The phone bank will take place on Wednesday, September 18 at the American Civil Liberties Union, 180 N. Michigan Avenue, on the corner of Michigan and Lake street (312-201-9740).
    • The phone bank times are 5:30-9 p.m.. 
    • The Adler School needs a minimum of 12 persons to participate in order to justify the expense of setting up the phone bank equipment and the room. 
    • The plan is to meet by the 15 floor elevators at 5:15pm and walk together as a group to the ACLU office.
    • You can stay for however long you wish. You can invite your friends/families to participate as well.
