The Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry reports only 39 percent of adolescents seen in an emergency room for self-harm injuries receive mental health assessments before being discharged.
“It’s a pretty clear call that things need to be different and changes need to be made,” says David Castro-Blanco, Ph.D., Adler School core faculty member and head of the Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology Program, Child and Adolescent Psychology Track “This is a population that is very likely to have repeat episodes that will land them back in the ER.”
